On test day

Test day can be stressful, read below about what to expect on test day to make sure you are ready to go. Preparation is key to success.

 

Speaking test

Before the test

  • Double check the time of your Speaking test and mark it in your diary so you don’t forget
  • Follow the instructions to download and test Zoom
  • Review Speaking test preparation materials to help you prepare for the test

On test day

  • Start getting ready for your test 15 minutes before your confirmed test time
  • Turn on your computer and have your email account open
  • Make sure you have your Photo Identification, it must be the same ID you used to register with
  • You will require a pen and piece of paper
  • Open the email sent to you to access your Speaking test Zoom invitation, if you can’t find it check your junk mail
  • Click on the link to start your test, your friendly examiner will be waiting and allow you access
  • The test will go for 11-14 minutes
  • Once you’ve completed your test, you can close Zoom

Listening, Reading and Writing

Before the test

  • Double check the start time of your test, if you are late to start your test you may not have enough time to complete it
  • Check your computer is ready to go, if you haven’t downloaded and checked the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) follow these steps
  • Review Listening, Reading and Writing test preparation materials to help you prepare for the test

On test day

  • Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed to take your test
  • The test will take 2 hours and 45 minutes, there are no allocated breaks during the test
  • During the test you will be monitored to ensure test security, please do not
    • use notes or any other materials 
    • use your phone or any other device, except the computer you are using for the test
    • interact or speak with another person in the room or communicate with any person virtually
    • move away from your computer
    • look away from your computer screen too often 
    • try to use other programs on your computer
  • There will be a ID check when you log in. You will need to take a photo of your face and your ID document. Please ensure you have your photo ID that you used when you registered for the test.
  • Turn on your computer 15 minutes before your test start time to allow you time to set up
  • Close all other windows and programs prior to launching SEB
  • Open the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) via the SEB link on your desktop or in your applications folder (Apple users)
  • Log in using your user name and password, once logged in your computer will go into lock-down mode
  • Complete your Listening (30 minutes) Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) sections of the test
  • At the end of your test, click exit safe exam browser to safely exit lock-down mode
  • Congratulations you have completed your IELTS Indicator test and you will receive your results via email in 5-7 days
