Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 27 April 2020

Please read these Terms carefully before downloading and using the IELTS Indicator test (“IELTS Indicator”) from the British Council, IELTS Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 84 008 664 766) and Cambridge Assessment English, collectively the “IELTS Owners”. Your access to and use of IELTS Indicator is conditional on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. By accessing or using IELTS Indicator you agree to be bound by these Terms.

IELTS Indicator

IELTS Indicator is an online test intended to provide you with an indication of how you will perform in an IELTS Test, in the four sections of the IELTS Test (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). User organisations of the IELTS Test may accept IELTS Indicator results as a predictor of your English language proficiency, but this may be subject to you confirming it later by taking the IELTS Test.

After you take IELTS Indicator, you will receive results which provide you with a band score achieved for each section tested (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) and an overall band score.

IELTS Indicator results are set out in IELTS indicative band scores. The report will be available within seven days of you completing your IELTS Indicator test.

IELTS Indicator is made available to you online, outside a test location, and is not taken under supervised test conditions. Your IELTS Indicator results are indicative of the results you are capable of achieving in the IELTS Test but do not guarantee you the same results in the IELTS Test. IELTS Indicator is not itself a form of testing approved by all user organisations (such as universities and immigration bodies) as a measure of English language competence. Please contact your Education Provider or University to understand if they acknowledge this score for the purposes of conditional applications.

You acknowledge that IELTS Indicator is jointly owned by the IELTS Owners.

You must take your IELTS Indicator yourself and must not permit others to have access to IELTS Indicator or test items. IELTS Indicator is for personal, non-commercial use only.

After you purchase an IELTS Indicator test, you will be sent the date, time and access details for your test. After this date, the test will be locked.

What you’ll need for your test

We expect you to ensure that your computer meets the minimum and recommended system requirements (and those of Zoom) and that it has a video-enabled camera, speakers and microphone for the IELTS Indicator test before you register.

Please refer to our Refunds Policy at www.ieltsindicator.com/refund-policy for further information.

Age requirements

You can take IELTS Indicator if you are 16 or over, but it is not recommended if you are under 18. The test content of both IELTS Indicator and the IELTS test are designed for adult English language learners.

If you are under 16 or 17 years of age, (i) a parent or guardian must complete a consent form (IELTS Indicator Child Consent Form) at least 48 hours before you take the IELTS Indicator test and (ii) you must have a chaperone aged 18 or over attend the Speaking component, which is compulsory if you want to obtain a result. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure the chaperone is aged 18 or over. The chaperone must adhere to the policies outlined in the child consent form signed by the minor’s parent/guardian. The chaperone can be the parent or guardian of the minor test taker.

Please refer to our policies on Vulnerable Adults (www.ieltsindicator.com/vulnerable-adults-policy/) and Child Protection (www.ieltsindicator.com/child-protection-policy/) for further information.

Intellectual Property

You acknowledge that IELTS Indicator is and remains the intellectual property of the IELTS Owners and IELTS Indicator and the results are made available to you only for the purpose of you taking IELTS Indicator. You must not use, copy, reproduce or distribute IELTS Indicator or any element of it or the results report other than for the purposes of taking IELTS Indicator and to provide indicative scores to user organisations.

All material you produce in taking the IELTS Indicator test becomes the property of the IELTS Partners and you are not entitled to have access to it.

Speaking

The IELTS Indicator Speaking component is conducted on a web-based video application (Zoom) requiring you to enable your computer’s video camera and microphone. An examiner will be present to ensure the integrity and security of the IELTS Indicator Speaking test.

If you are aged 16 or 17, you will need to have a chaperone, clearly visible to the examiner, but who must not take part in the test in any way. Your chaperone will have to provide a photo identity document at the beginning of the Speaking test to verify their identity and age against those details provided in the child consent form. For test takers of this age, headphones cannot be worn to complete the Speaking test, as the chaperone must be able to hear all communication throughout the test.

You must arrive on time for the Speaking test, or risk obtaining a zero result for that component with no option to rearrange.

If the examiner cannot verify your identity (and/or that of the chaperone where you are aged 16 or 17) at the start of the Speaking test, the Speaking test will be terminated and rescheduled. No refund will be provided. If the examiner is still unable to verify identity on the rescheduled Speaking test date, your whole IELTS Indicator test will be cancelled and a full refund provided.

You will need to ensure that you are in a quiet place with a plain background for the Speaking component and demonstrate morally acceptable behaviour suitable for a test situation during the Speaking test at all times; any failure to do so will result in the Speaking component being terminated immediately (including during the test itself) by the examiner. The Speaking test may be terminated early with good cause at the examiner’s discretion and such decision shall be final.

Malpractice

If you are suspected of engaging in any form of malpractice, or do anything that might damage the integrity and security of the IELTS Indicator test, you may not receive a test result and your test fee will not be refunded. Details of any proven or suspected malpractice may be provided to user organisations and appropriate regulatory bodies.

Privacy and Personal Data

You will be asked to provide identity documents to establish and verify your identity and age for the IELTS Indicator test and result. You acknowledge that the personal data you provided in relation to booking an IELTS Indicator test is collected for the purposes of administering IELTS Indicator and this data will be disclosed to, processed and stored by the IELTS Owners for those purposes. You understand that your personal data may be processed in an anonymous form for statistical and research purposes by the IELTS Owners, which we do in our legitimate interests. Your use of IELTS Indicator is subject to applicable terms of the IELTS privacy policy which is found at www.ieltsindicator.com/privacy-policy/
